 Owner of the discreet Gilded Cage hideout. Cree has traveled all of El Nysa and established his spies, or "little birds" in every corner of the world. He knows intimate details about important figureheads of both factions, and suspects that the refugees are not all that they seem to be. Despite being a known criminal and the apparent orchestrator of the VIOLET 2710 attacks, he provides work for the lower class and seems to have a generally positive reputation. He has a strong dislike for Ashti.

Cree is almost never seen without a small bird on his shoulder. You might find that you have seen this bird before, and if you listen closely enough, you will hear it speak common to its owner. If you specifically request contact with the the bird alone, it is entirely possible it will carry out a conversation with you.

A character's first interaction with Cree is free of any favor, but they will be required to take up a job (thief, enforcer, informant) before they can return for more information. Sign up at the EMPLOYMENT THREAD and direct any other inquiries by characters here. IC consequences for breaking silence on his whereabouts to their other NPCs will be discussed by PM.

What drives anyone to such conflict? They believe the customs of their neighbors are below them, refusing to accept their way is not any better than others'. Olympia has been allowed to nurture a sense of superiority, fueled by their technological advancements. Wyver finds strength in nature, fueled by their faith in beasts of old.

[ Cree sighs, waving a dismissive hand. ]

If you raise your children to believe if they do something they will be grounded, they will not do that thing in fear of losing what is precious to them. These societies have been built on the belief that if they share the same playground, they will lose their toys.

Sounds familiar.

[She says as much with her own sigh, settling back where she sits with arms crossed and expression just a touch sour.]

So in the end it's mostly a game of who thinks they're the best. Can't say it surprises me.

[Can't say she wasn't hoping for something a little deeper than that but it is what it is. She does cock a brow up though, sourness turning to slight amusement.]

I bet it keeps you in business though.

There are other factors, of course. One leader believes she can broaden her horizons, another seeks to shelter what is his. But at their core, they are driven by what we are all so familiar with: the need to be right.

[ Cree raises his hands in a helpless gesture. ]

You aren't incorrect. Conflict creates a need for those with no inhibitions to carry out what others cannot bring themselves to do. I do not enjoy it, however. It comes at the cost of seeing citizens of either side butchered, and things are... much easier when they work together.

[Somehow that seems to draw some tension from her shoulders. Mai wasn't terribly keen on joining up with underground affairs, even if she had no qualms about seeking it out to learn more about this world. It was nice to know then that at least one of the people in charge wasn't the thorough conflict-loving sort.]

No kidding. You can't count on people to see things eye to eye enough for everything to work out easily unfortunately. There's always going to be some group or another having a problem and causing a mess - just like with this whole bombing.

Or... perhaps this "whole bombing" is a way to make how this world works known. A wake up call onto those who sit idle while innocents pay the price of animosity year after year. A change of perspective for the our mysterious new arrivals.

[ He tilts his head, seeming to take the moment to examine Mai more closely. ]

It would do you good to put yourself ahead of the curve. You are light on your feet, are you not? I would be pleased if you considered returning here. So often do skills go to waste.

[She raises her brows a bit there. She gets what he means because well... she grew up in a world like that, didn't she. Her family had always been those sitting idle and unknowing of what was really happening. She understood more now years later but it was still somehow hard to look at the other side of the coin so to speak.

She smiles a little, more a smirk than a smile honestly, at the question and the comment following.]

I was hoping you would say that. I don't really like sitting idly by, that's for sure. I'd rather see the truth and use my skills too.

[Whatever that truth may be. Natha may be promising her the safety of everyone from her world but she equally didn't believe on relying on others. If Natha failed, she would find a backup plan. As many as she had to have to keep those slumbering pods whole and safe.]
